Nadia Comaneci, (born November 12 1961 Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej, (presently OnestiGheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej [now Onesti Romania) Romanian gymnast who was the first gymnast in history to receive a score of a perfect of 10 points in an Olympic event. Bela Karalyi was introduced to Comaneci when she was six. Comaneci would go on to become Romania's gymnastics coach. The first time she competed at the junior national championships in 1969, finishing 13th. She was the winner in 1970. She took home three golds at her debut competition in a junior pre-Olympic meeting in 1972, which was a the communist bloc nations. Between 1973 and 1974, she was the junior all-round champion. At her first competitive event in senior level, Lyudmila Turkishcheva from Russia took home five gold medals aswell with one silver. The first female to perform the reverse double salo of the parallel bar that was uneven in the event she won American Cup, New York City 1976. Carol Wayne.........................Carol Way...
